Funday Favorites!

February 24th, 2013 | Sunday.

Well, hello there. Today I'm coming to you with a series of posts I used to do back in my old blog and that's Funday Favorites. Every Sunday (at least I'll try) I will post my favorites - music, television, make-up, beauty tips, apps, movies, basically anything and everything. Enjoy my first Funday Favorites post! ♥

TV SHOW: My new obsession is 2 Broke Girls. It's amazing and so freaking funny! Well, I'm watching it for quite some time now and I can say that's it's the funniest show I've ever seen (F.R.I.E.N.D.S. will always be my all-time fave, don't get me wrong). If you didn't know - it's about 2 girls, one is broke from her childhood and one was rich but lost all of her money and now is broke too. The show has a ton of funny quotes, A LOT of inappropriate jokes, which are my favorite and some serious moments too. You have to watch and figure out if you like it yourself, because it really depends.

MAKE-UP: My favorite for this week must be my mascara - Essence's Multi Action. I desperately need a new one, because this one is already a little dried up and have a few times of usage in it. It's pretty cheap and does great things to my lashes - adds a ton of lenght and separates perfectly. Not a lot of volume for me though, but I'm all about lenght so...

MUSIC: This will sound weird, okay. Don't jugde. So a couple weeks ago I listened to some of Avril Lavigne's oldest songs on youtube, remebering the good times of my childhood. Well then I decided to download 2 of her CD's from 2002-2004. I've been listening to it ever since. I never planned on it it just happened, okay? My favorites are - Nobody's Home, Don't Tell Me (It was the first song I ever learned the lyrics to when I was younger), My Happy Ending, Complicated. What is shocking for me is that I like all of the songs. There's not one I wouldn't listen to when it came on shuffle.

That's it for this week! I don't have anything other I would like to mention as a favorite, maybe next week? :) See you later ♥

Library book haul ♥

From left to right: Long Lost by Harlan Coben, Saving Rachel by John Locke, Standoff by Sandra Brown and Insurgent by Veronica Roth.

Hello, lovelies! A few days ago I went back to my favorite place - library. I've been a bookworm since kindergarten and the place where I'm surrounded by all tipes of books is one of my favorites. I've been quite late to return the books I 'borrowed' last time so I had to pay penalty but that didn't affect my spirits to find something new. I get an e-mail when a book that I order is available (you can order books from their e-catalog online, sometimes you have to wait a month or so if it's taken) and I ordered 'Insurgent' by Veronica Roth as soon as it became available in my language but it's already been taken. Well, I waited. And waited some more. But then, to my surprise, I got an e-mail, saying that I can finally come pick it up! I was more than excited to read it since I was really impressed with Divergent and read it in one sitting (until 1am but still). I rushed there after school and I wouldn't be me if I didn't go through to all the aisles looking for some more reads not only for me, for my boyfriend too. I picked up 3 more books besides Insurgent, all 3 of them being detective/thriller novels.
I'm already familiar with Sandra Brown's and Harlan Coben's books but I've never read anything by John Locke. I'm guilty of judging a book by it's cover this time. The text is imitating blood and it reminds me of some kind of scary movie's DVD cover or something and I'm into that. (Can be seen in the picture above, the second book from the left).
As you can see, I like detectives. And young adult novels. Also, I'm familiar with sci-fi and fantasy novels.
I will do my Recent Reads post as soon as I finish Insurgent. If you want a review for any of the ones I picked up, leave a request in the comments. And if not, well, I will probably do it anyways ;) If you want to keep up with what I'm reading - visit my Goodreads account :)
Have a great day, everyone. Thanks for reading ♥

Boost your immune system!

Wednesday, February 13, 2013

Spring is coming but winter doesn't want to leave just yet, which leads to people getting sick all around me. Schools closing down because of the rate of people catching cold and flu and I don't want to be one of them. I don't think you want it too, right? I thought I would share some tips on how to boost your immune system and avoid catching terrible sickness. You don't want to lay in bed with a headache, stuffed nose and sore throat, right? Yeah, I thought so.

  • Eat those veggies!
I know, it's a common known fact that eating healthy will lead to better health overall. When your mom told you to eat those spinnach or carrots, explaining that it's healthy for you, she didn't lie! Actually, what boosts immune system the most is antioxidants. They help neutralize any free radicals that damages your cells and you really need that. Antioxidant-full foods are brightly colored fruits and vegetables, including berries, citrus fruits, kiwi, apples, red grapes, kale, onions, spinach, sweet potatoes, and carrots. Most of these foods mentioned are delicious, at least to me. I love grapes and apples and they are not hard to incorporate into your diet and lifestyle.
  • Go outside and exercise!
Getting your heart rate up for just 20 minutes just three times a week is associated with increased immune function, and a brisk walk five days a week can help reduce your risk of catching a cold. 20 minutes is not that long and to get your blood pumping you can do anything you want to - sit ups, push ups, a little run around your neighboorhood. If it's cold, you can easily do exercises in your room, internet is full of sites where you can learn about easy at-home workouts. Also, what is a better way to prepare for upcoming spring-summer months than exercising? When you take your shorts and dresses you want to look good, don't you? It's two birds with one stone - 20 minutes everyday and when summer comes around you will look and feel great, so do it!
  • Set up you sleep schedule.
Also, one that is commonly known. I'm the one that likes to watch some TV, do my homework late in the evening and go to sleep super late. I'm trying to get in the habit of going to bed sooner and so should you! Studies shown, that students who gets 4 hours of sleep for 6 days in a row result in poor production of antibodies and if they won't work you won't be able to keep the cold away. Sleep is also essential for concentration, skin health and so many more things! Getting adequate amounts – usually 7 to 9 hours for an adult – is essential to good health.
  • Take time to relax.
Stress is one of the immune system busters. Hormones released in stressful situations can really mess up you immune system and stress overall is not a good feeling. I know, all of us have days where everything piled up so high you can't take it and all you want to do is burst into tears. When stressful situations occur, just relax. Being more positive about things will not only help you health but also your social life! Everyone wants to be around the positive person that has a smile on their face at all times and put others in a good mood too. It may be hard, but there's no problem without a solution, you just have to find it. As hard as it may seem if you do it more often you will become happier and enjoying life will be more than easy :)
  • Laugh a little!
It's weird that such common thing as laughter can boost your immune system but it does! Hormones are a crazy thing, really. The rate of stress hormones decrease and the type of white blood cells that fight infection increases.  In fact, even if you know that you will have a good laugh sometime soon lowers your stress hormone balance! That is crazy. So look at everything with a little irony sometimes, laugh with your friends and you will avoid cold and flu!

These things combined gives good results, I tell you! I will try to reach these goals myself and I hope to be healthier and happier in no time!

FUN FACT:  While researching for these things I found a little fun thing - Harvard page about immune system says, that cold air actually don't increase your chances on catching a cold or flu. People are just more likely to be inside when it's cold and catch it from people in the same building. And it's proven! So you won't achieve anything if you bundle up in huge scarves when leaving home, you have to boost your immune system!

Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed. I really enjoyed writing it :)

Monday Questionnaire #1

Monday, February 11, 2013

Well, hello there! If you don't know me - I'm Eve, and if you wandered here from my personal tumblr blog you may already know me ;) This is the official opening post for my new blog and my new love - ChantellEve. I'm here to present you with my first post - Monday Questionnaire. I've done a couple of them on my tumblr and as it's monday I decided - what's better than doing Monday Questionnaire? I originally got the idea from one of my favorite beauty youtubers - Amarixe but I changed some questions so I could do them more often. What do you think? Leave a comment telling me if you like them! Without further ado, let's jump in:

  1. Mood? I feel accomplished. I finally finished this blog and I've been working on it for some time.
  2. Did you do anything fun this weekend? I had a shooting competition on Saturday and I stayed in all day on Sunday which was much needed after all the school work I had to do this past week.
  3. What is the closest object to you that is pink? My makeup brushes are standing right here on my desk.
  4. Current nail polish? Blue-ish green-ish pastel color.
  5. Current outfit? Leggings, a cozy knitted sweater with a tank underneath and a bathrobe.
  6. What was the last book you read/what are you currently reading? The last book I read was Divergent by Veronica Roth and that was quite a while ago. I'm currently reading Forever by Maggie Stiefvater but I've been reading it for a month now and can't seem to finish it. Maybe because I abandoned books lately? Need to get back to reading, asap.
  7. What was the last movie you saw? How was it? Well, I'm not a huge movie watcher and can't remember the last time I watched a movie. I tried watching The Perks Of Being A Wallflower the other day but turned it off and watched a few more episodes of One Tree Hill. I'm bad, really really bad.
  8. Current weather? Cold. Icy and a little snowy.
  9. What was the last thing you ate? I'm snacking on a bag of Estrella chips as I'm writing this. I eat them once every few months so that's no biggie. I haven't had them in a while, though.
  10. Weekly goals. Come up with a few more ideas for my blog. I have a few written down already but I would like to have more, just in case. Suggestions are always a plus, so please do! :)
That's it for today. Hope you liked my first post and come back for more in the future.
Thanks for reading! ♥
